Cookie Settings

Overview

This page lists the cookies and similar technologies that whizki.com uses today, what they do, and how to turn them off. Cookies are small text records a website asks your browser to keep so it can remember you between page loads. We try to keep our use of them small and explain it in plain words rather than legal fog.

What we set on your device

  • Session cookie (whi.sid): only set after you sign in. It tells the server which logged-in account is making requests. Removed when the session ends or you log out.
  • Local storage (whi_settings_v1, whi_user_v1, etc.): keeps small UI preferences in your browser, such as the theme and the language. Never sent to our server. Cleared from your browser settings or by clearing site data.
  • CSRF / anti-forgery token: a short-lived cookie used to confirm that form submissions actually came from a page you opened. Strictly necessary for forms to work.

Third-party cookies

  • Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*). Measures aggregate traffic so we know which pages and worksheets are useful. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising audiences. Retention is set to 14 months. Opt out for any site: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
  • Google, Facebook, Apple sign-in. The first time you use one of these to log in, that provider sets its own cookies in their domain to recognise you on their side. Those cookies are governed by their privacy policies, not ours. If you never click those buttons, they are not set.

We do not currently run on-site advertising and do not load advertising or social-tracking pixels. If we add them in the future, this page will be updated and we will ask for your consent before they fire.

How to control cookies

You can manage cookies in your browser at any time. Common options:

  • Block third-party cookies: stops Google Analytics on whizki.com without breaking the Site. Settings name varies by browser, look for "Block third-party cookies".
  • Clear site data for whizki.com: removes session, preferences, and analytics IDs in one step. The next visit starts fresh.
  • Private / Incognito window: no persistent cookies are kept after you close the window.

Step-by-step instructions for every major browser: allaboutcookies.org/manage-cookies.

If you turn off the session cookie, you will not be able to stay signed in. If you clear local storage, the Site forgets your UI preferences and uses defaults again. The catalogue, blog, and worksheets all keep working without any cookies at all.
