Split Fruit Words into Syllables Practice

Hearing syllables can feel obvious to adults, but it is often bumpy for kids who are just starting to notice sounds inside words. If your child guesses, rushes, or says the whole word without hearing the parts, this printable gives that listening work a clear, screen-free focus.

On this one-page worksheet, children read or repeat familiar fruit and food words, say each word slowly, and split it into syllable parts. The page practices phonological awareness, careful listening, word segmentation, and the idea that longer words can be broken into smaller sound chunks before reading or spelling.

Use the page with a pencil and a simple routine: say the word, clap or tap the beats, then mark where the word breaks. For younger preschoolers, you can say the word first and let them echo you. For kindergarten learners, invite them to try the split before you check it together.

This worksheet is part of the Phonics and Sounds Pack, a Whizki Plus set from Whizki Learning focused on letter sounds, blending, and early sound skills. Syllable work fits naturally into that path because children learn to listen inside words before they are asked to blend and read them smoothly.

Keep the session short and playful. Do three or four words, take a quick stretch break, then finish the rest if your child is still engaged. A steady 5 to 10 minutes is enough for meaningful practice without turning phonics into a power struggle.
