Classroom Jobs: Help Our Shared Space

Cleanup time can turn into a power struggle fast. One child wants to keep playing, another insists the mess is not theirs, and the adult is left repeating the same reminder. This page gives that everyday moment a clear social studies purpose: shared spaces need shared care.

On the worksheet, children look at an illustrated classroom scene after drawing and reading time. They circle the book and crayons left on the floor, then choose one cleanup job and explain how that job helps the next group. The work practices observation, responsibility, cause and effect, and speaking or writing a simple explanation.

Use the page right after a real cleanup routine, or before one as a quick class meeting starter. Read the short story aloud, let your child find the materials, and ask, “What job would make this space ready for someone else?” If writing is tiring, have the child dictate the answer while you write it.
