Interview and Draw a Family Tradition Together

It can be hard to explain tradition to a young child when the day is already full. Big cultural words may feel too abstract, and some children worry there is a right answer. This page starts with something real: an activity your family or caregivers do together again and again.

The child interviews someone who cares for them, listens for one recurring activity, and draws two responses in an album-style scene. On the left page, they draw something used for the activity. On the right page, they draw what people do together, building oral language, memory, social studies vocabulary, and purposeful drawing.

Use it at the kitchen table, during morning work, or as a homeschool conversation starter. Ask, “What is something we do together a lot?” Then let the child choose the activity, even if it feels ordinary. Cooking pancakes, reading at bedtime, walking the dog, or calling a grandparent can all count.

This Whizki Plus worksheet belongs to Kindergarten Social Studies Adventures, a premium set about everyday social studies through conversation, illustration, and drawing. It helps children see culture and traditions as lived experiences, not just special events on a calendar. The friendly beaver and album layout keep the topic gentle and personal.

Keep the session short and warm. Spend two minutes asking the interview question, three to five minutes drawing, and one minute sharing the finished page. If writing is still hard, you can label the pictures for the child.
