Welcome a Guest at Our Family Meal Table

Mealtime manners can feel hard to teach when everyone is hungry, wiggly, or talking at once. If your child forgets to greet people, reaches for toys, or needs many reminders at the table, this page gives you a calm, screen-free way to practice one small welcoming action before the real meal begins.

On the worksheet, a beaver is at a kitchen table where a guest is joining the meal. Your child looks at the scene, listens to the short story, and circles something helpful to offer the guest to drink. Then the child practices an invitation to sit and eat, using picture choices to separate a helpful table item from items that do not fit the situation.

Use the page by reading the story aloud first, then asking, What could help the guest feel welcome? Let your child point, circle, and explain the choice in simple words. If more than one child is working, invite them to listen to another idea and say, I noticed, before sharing their own reason.

This printable belongs to Preschool Social Studies Adventures, a Whizki Plus set from Whizki Learning that explores everyday community, family, and classroom situations through conversation and drawing. The focus here is social understanding, including hospitality, turn-taking in talk, and noticing what another person might need at a shared meal.

Keep the session short and friendly. Five minutes is enough to look, circle, and practice one sentence such as, Would you like some water? If your child enjoys role-play, finish by pretending to set a place for a stuffed animal or family member, then stop before the activity starts to feel like a lecture.
