Passing a Story Along: Family Tradition Page

Explaining family traditions to a preschooler can get tricky fast. You may know the story behind a special book, meal, song, or visit, but a young child often needs something simple to look at, point to, and talk about.

On this one-page worksheet, children look at an illustrated picnic scene where friends are sharing a story. They point to the book in the picture, then draw someone they could ask to share a story with them. The page builds observation, early social studies vocabulary, drawing, and oral language.

Use it at the table, on the rug, or in a small group. First, ask your child to find the book. Then read the prompt aloud and give them a crayon or pencil for the drawing space. After they draw, invite them to finish simple sentence starters like “My idea” or “My reason.”
