The animal count and choose worksheet asks first graders to find and count each kind of animal in one mixed picture field. The child counts each animal group, then circles the total that matches, with numbers staying at twenty or below for steady counting practice.
At age six, many children can say number words in order, but six-year-olds often lose a place when pictures are scattered. A mixed animal page helps a child practice looking carefully, touching or marking one item at a time, and connecting the final count to a written number.
A parent or teacher can sit beside the child and choose one animal to count first. The child can use a crayon to make a tiny dot on each matching animal, say the numbers out loud, and circle the answer after the last animal is counted.
