Little Math Stories is a first grade math worksheet with three picture story problems about flowers, frogs, and rabbits. Children practice addition and subtraction by reading each short scene, noticing whether a group grows or gets smaller, and finding the answer.
At age seven, many children can solve a bare fact like five plus five, but story problems can make the same child pause. The pause is normal because a child has to read, picture the action, choose addition or subtraction, and then calculate.
Sit together and start with the flower story: read the two sentences, have the child show five flowers and five more with fingers or small counters, then write ten. For the frog and rabbit stories, ask the child to act out frogs jumping away and rabbits hopping in before writing each answer.
The worksheet is useful because each problem uses a tiny story and a picture instead of a plain row of facts. The repeated format helps a child focus on what changed, while the different animals and objects keep the page feeling like shared reading time.
