The Shape Sides and Corners Worksheet gives preschool children a simple way to describe basic two-dimensional shapes. Children look at familiar shapes, count straight sides, count corners, and connect each shape name to visible features.
At age five, shape names can come before shape understanding. A child may call every pointy shape a triangle or may mix up a square and a rectangle when the shape is turned sideways, so counting sides and corners gives the child a concrete check.
A parent or teacher can sit beside the child, read each direction aloud, and invite the child to touch each side with a finger. After counting, the child can point to each corner, say the shape name, and explain the answer in a short sentence.
