Past and Present Family Museum Comparison

Talking about the past can get tricky fast, especially when a child thinks old means yesterday and grown-ups are juggling dinner, cleanup, or a busy classroom. This printable gives that big idea one simple job: ask, look, draw, and explain.

On the page, children use a museum-themed scene with a bunny guide and two labeled frames, Then and Now. They ask a grown-up about an older household object, look at a real item or photograph if possible, draw that object in the Then frame, draw a related current object in the Now frame, and name the person or evidence that helped them learn.

Use it with a safe, ordinary object, such as a phone, lamp, kitchen tool, toy, or family photo. Read the short story prompt aloud, let your child interview you or another grown-up, then help them finish the sentence stems for My idea, My reason, and I noticed.

As a Whizki Plus page in the Grade 1 Social Studies Adventures set, this worksheet supports everyday social studies through conversation, drawing, and early evidence skills. It fits well after a family story, during a classroom unit on past and present, or as a homeschool discussion page.

Keep the session short and concrete. Spend two minutes choosing the object, three minutes talking, and a few minutes drawing and labeling, then invite your child to point to the evidence they used.
