Trace a Neighborhood Route to the Market

Map skills can feel surprisingly hard to fit into a busy day, especially when your child knows the places in town but has not yet connected them to a picture map. Start with one simple trip, and let your child see that a path can show where someone goes first, next, and last.

On this printable page, your child uses a neighborhood picture map to plan a food trip. The story begins at the Library, continues to Home, then the Park, and ends at the Market. Children trace the trip along the peach paths, circle the place where food could be bought, and answer the talk prompt about which stop came just before the market.

Use the page slowly the first time. Read the story aloud, point to each place, then invite your child to trace the route with a finger before using a crayon. After circling the Market, ask, “How do you know?” This keeps the activity practical, screen-free, and focused on map reading, sequence words, and everyday community places.

This worksheet is part of the Kindergarten Social Studies Adventures set in the Whizki Plus tier from Whizki Learning. The set explores everyday Social Studies through illustrated kindergarten worksheets that invite conversation, drawing, and real-life thinking about neighborhoods, people, places, and routines.

For a short session, aim for 5 to 10 minutes. If your child gets stuck, cover part of the map and reveal one stop at a time. End by asking them to describe a real route you take, such as from home to the park or store.
