Learning Outcomes

Trace a route across a simple neighborhood map. The worksheet practices following a visual path from one labeled place to the next.

Identify common community places on a picture map. The child names and points to familiar stops such as a market, library, home, and park.

Sequence a trip using first, next, and last ideas. The route order helps the child describe where the trip begins, continues, and ends.

Trace a Neighborhood Route on the Park Map

Getting young kids to understand maps can feel tricky, especially when “go left” and “go next” still sound the same during a busy school day. This printable gives you one calm, concrete page where your child can see a neighborhood trip instead of just hearing directions.

On the worksheet, children use a picture map titled Our Trip to the Park. They start at the Market, trace the route to the Library, continue to Home, and finish at the Park. Then they circle the place for outdoor play and rest, building map awareness, sequencing, place-name vocabulary, and fine-motor control.

Use the page with a crayon or pencil and read the story line aloud first. Point to each stop together, then let your child trace the route independently. After tracing, ask, “Where did we start?” and “Where did we finish?” to turn the map into quick social studies conversation.

This page is part of the Whizki Plus set, Kindergarten Social Studies Adventures, from Whizki Learning. The set explores everyday Social Studies through illustrated Kindergarten activities, conversation, and drawing, so children can connect community places, maps, helpers, and routines to real life.

Keep it short and relaxed. In a 5 to 10 minute session, your child can trace the route, circle the park, and name the first and last stops. If attention fades, save the conversation question for later at snack time or before an actual neighborhood walk.
