Trace Neighborhood Routes to Meet at the Park

It can be hard to teach maps when a child wants to point everywhere at once, and you are trying to keep the table calm. This page gives that busy curiosity one clear job: help two people meet at the same outdoor place.

Children look at a friendly neighborhood picture map with Home, the Library, and the Park. They trace one route from Home to the Park, then trace a second route from the Library to the same Park. The task builds direction following, visual tracking, map awareness, and the social idea of agreeing on a shared meeting place.

Use a crayon or pencil and ask your child to start with a finger route before marking the page. After the first line, pause and ask, “Where are we meeting?” Then have your child explain the second route using the response stems, such as “My idea” and “My reason.”

As part of the Kindergarten Social Studies Adventures set in Whizki Plus, this printable fits a practical social studies routine for kindergarten or preschool at home, in class, or in a homeschool binder. It uses everyday places, conversation, and drawing instead of screen time, so children practice maps through a situation they can understand.

Keep the session to 5 to 10 minutes. If your child gets stuck, cover part of the map and focus on one starting place, one path, and the Park. End by letting your child point to another safe neighborhood place and tell how they would get there.
