Find the Missing Numbers Worksheet

The Find the Missing Numbers worksheet gives first graders four short number trails and four simple equations to complete. Children fill gaps in sequences from 0 to 20, then use addition and subtraction facts such as 8 plus 10, 10 minus 5, 13 plus 7, and 13 minus 6 to build counting and number sense.

Seven-year-olds often know the counting song, but kids stall when a blank sits in the middle of a number trail. At first grade, filling missing numbers helps children notice what comes before and after, which supports addition, subtraction, and early place value work.

Sit beside your child and start with the first trail, 0, blank, 2, 3, blank. Ask your child to say each number while touching each spot, write the missing numbers, and then solve the matching equation on the same row. If a child gets stuck, count forward or backward together before picking up the pencil.

The worksheet stays focused, with only four rows, so the page feels doable when attention is short. The number trails move from 0 through 20, and the equations mix missing parts and missing answers, so children practice flexible number thinking instead of copying a long list of nearly identical problems.
