Compare Quantities in Picture Groups

This picture comparison worksheet has 5 pairs to compare. Count the objects in the two groups before deciding what the row asks you to do. Choose greater-than, less-than, or equal-to for the blank between each pair.

The first row uses 6 and 7. 6 is less than 7; choose the sign that states this relationship when read from left to right. Point to the relevant numbers or groups as you explain the example.

Let the child describe a strategy before writing. Pairing counters one to one can show which amount has extras, while equal groups leave no extras on either side. Check the direction of the comparison symbol after deciding which amount is larger. Begin with a few rows and offer another example only when it helps the child continue independently.
