Build Teen Numbers with Tens and Ones Place Value
If your child can count aloud but gets puzzled when a teen number means one ten and some ones, you are in a very normal spot. Place value is a big idea, and it often needs more than flash cards or counting songs.
On this printable page, children complete three build-it rows. Each row shows a teen number, and the child records or draws how many tens and ones make that number. The page also includes one extension prompt to build another teen number, giving extra practice with composing numbers to 19.
Print the page, set out a pencil, and keep a handful of small counters nearby if your child likes to touch and move objects. Read one row together, build it with counters, then have your child fill in the tens and ones on the page.
