Kindergarten Subtraction Counting Pictures Worksheet
This Kindergarten math worksheet practices subtraction with counting pictures. Each problem shows a larger set of objects and a smaller set to remove. Kindergarten children count the objects in the pictures, not digits.
Five-year-olds get bored fast, and counting can get messy when children want to “move on” too quickly. When a child skips steps, subtraction turns into guessing instead of careful take-away.
For this worksheet, parent and child can do one row at a time. The parent points to the larger group, the child counts the pictures out loud, then the child covers the smaller group and counts what remains. The Whizki Learning page gives the exact picture prompts for each try.
This worksheet is useful because the subtraction idea comes from what the child can see and touch. The picture sets make it easier to track the take-away and the new total, even when addition and subtraction still feels new.
