Number sense grows stronger when children can look at a numeral and say the number without guessing. Seven-year-olds may know counting order but still pause on teen numbers, especially 13, 18, and 19, because those names can feel close and easy to mix up.
A parent or teacher can sit beside the child and read the number cards together from left to right. Ask the child to point to 13, find 1, say 20 in a big voice, then circle back to the teen numbers for one more quick read.
