Community Helpers Worksheet

The Community Helpers worksheet gives first graders practice with community helper vocabulary and the real jobs people do in a town or neighborhood. Children look at common helpers, think about each worker’s role, and connect each job to a service, tool, or place in the community.

First grade is a good time to build social studies language because children are starting to notice how a community works beyond home and school. Seven-year-olds can also rush through familiar pictures and miss the difference between jobs, so a simple page helps slow down observation and conversation.

A parent or teacher can sit with the child and name each community helper aloud before the child completes the page. After each answer, ask one plain question, such as “How does a firefighter help people?” or “Where might a mail carrier work today?”

The worksheet is useful because the page keeps the focus on real-life people and everyday services, not random matching for busywork. The mix of pictures, job words, and short discussion prompts makes the printable a practical starting point for shared talk about safety, care, work, and responsibility in a community.
