Compare Numbers Greater Smaller Equal Worksheet

Kids can stall when number comparison feels like a guessing game. This worksheet keeps the task clear: look at two numbers, compare their values, and decide whether one is greater, one is smaller, or both are equal. It is a simple off-screen practice page you can sit beside, read together, and talk through one pair at a time.

This is a good fit when a kindergartener can recognize written numbers and is starting to understand that numbers stand for amounts. If written numbers still feel a little abstract, warm up with bigger, smaller, and equal object groups first, because seeing groups can make the idea of “more,” “less,” and “same” easier to picture.

The practice works by slowing the comparison down. Ask your child to read both numbers, point to each one, and tell which number shows more, fewer, or the same amount. If they rush, try a quick check with fingers, dots on scrap paper, or a number line if you use one at home. Keep the talk short and concrete: “Which number is more?” “Are they the same?” “How do you know?”

For the next step, reuse the page by covering the answer area and having your child explain each choice before marking it. When comparison feels steady, move into simple change problems with little math stories for addition and subtraction, where children use numbers to think about amounts being joined or taken away.
