Halloween Handwriting: Costumes and Treats

This Halloween word tracing worksheet has six rows: WITCH, BROOM, SPIDER, COSTUME, TREAT, and NIGHT. Each row places an uppercase tracing model on the left and a blank guided writing area on the right. Trace the printed letters, then copy the same word beside the model. The vocabulary includes short and longer words, providing different lengths of handwriting practice.

Read the first word together before tracing it. Notice the order of its letters and follow each printed letter form with a pencil. Rest the letters on the bottom writing line, using the other guides to judge their height. Then look back at the model while copying into the right-hand space, comparing one letter at a time instead of trying to remember the entire word immediately.

An adult can demonstrate one letter and help the child find a comfortable pace. Pause between rows if the hand becomes tired, or begin with a shorter word before returning to a longer one. Copying from a visible model practices letter formation and sequence; it does not require the child to spell the word from memory. After writing, compare the copied letters and any word spaces with the model.
