Number Comparison Worksheet

Seven-year-olds can get bored fast when number practice feels like a long drill. This page keeps the task clear: look at two numbers, compare their values, and decide whether one is greater, smaller, or equal. Sit together, read each pair out loud, and let your child mark the answer after talking through the choice.

This is a good fit when a first grader can read basic numbers but still needs practice seeing which value is larger. If a pair feels tricky, ask, “Which number would land farther along on a counting line?” You can also use small objects, like buttons or blocks, to build each amount and compare the two groups.

The practice works because each item asks for one focused decision. Children read both numbers, think about place value or counting order, and choose the relationship between them. That same comparison habit helps later when they check answers in addition and subtraction, because they start noticing whether a result makes sense.

After this page, keep the math talk short and concrete. Ask your child to explain two answers, then stop before it turns into a battle. For a next step, try little math stories for addition and subtraction to connect number size with simple situations, or use another addition and subtraction story worksheet when your child is ready to compare answers in word problems.
