Object Group Comparison Worksheet

Kids can stall when a math page jumps straight to numbers. This worksheet stays with real pictures first. Your child looks at two groups of objects, counts what is shown, and decides whether one group is bigger, smaller, or equal. It is a simple way to connect everyday comparison words with a printed math task.

This is a good fit when a five-year-old can count small groups with touch or finger pointing, even if they still double-count sometimes. Sit nearby and invite them to count each group out loud. If they lose track, cover one group with a hand, count the first group, then uncover and count the second group. The goal is careful comparing, not speed.

The practice works because the amount is visible. Children count actual pictures, then use that count to make a choice about size. That kind of comparison helps them notice how groups change before they move into written addition and subtraction. If your child needs more of the same kind of practice, try this object group comparison worksheet for another picture-based round, or use this object group comparison worksheet when they are ready to repeat the skill with a fresh page.

As you work, ask short questions like, “Which group did you count first?” and “How do you know they are the same?” If frustration shows up, stop after a few comparisons and come back later. A strong next step is to use small toys or snacks at the table, make two groups, and ask your child to tell which group has more, fewer, or the same number.
