Object Group Comparison Worksheet

Kids can stall when two groups look close in size, and that is normal at age four. This page gives them a simple, hands-on way to look at two sets of pictures, count what they see, and decide whether one group is bigger, smaller, or equal. There are no digits to solve, so the focus stays on actual quantities.

This is a good fit when a preschooler can point to objects one by one, say number words in order for a short count, and stay with a page for a few minutes with you nearby. If counting gets wobbly, start by covering one group and count together, then uncover the second group and compare. The goal is not speed. The goal is noticing how many are in each group.

The practice supports early addition and subtraction readiness because comparing groups helps children see more, fewer, and same before they work with written number sentences. Have your child touch each picture while counting, say the total for each side, then circle or mark the group that matches the prompt. For more of the same visual comparison routine, you can use this object group comparison worksheet to repeat the skill with a familiar setup, then try another object group comparison page when you want a fresh round of practice.

Stay close and use everyday words. You might ask, “Which side has more?” or “Do they have the same number?” If your child guesses, invite one slow recount instead of correcting right away. A good next step is to build two tiny groups with buttons, blocks, or snacks and ask the same questions off the page.
