Sound Substitution Word Change Worksheet
This worksheet is a sound substitution page where the child changes the last sound in each word to make a new word. Example pairs show pig to pie and cow to cog.
At age 6, children often recognize whole words, but they still need help when sounds must change. When letter-shape practice feels slow or the child guesses without listening, the last sound focus makes the task feel more doable.
For each line, say the starting word out loud and ask the child to stretch the final sound. Then pause and have the child choose the new last sound, say the new word, and mark or write the new word answer on the worksheet.
Each word pair stays small and clear, so practice fits into short, shared moments. The worksheet also works well as a warm-up before reading or a quick station during literacy time at home.
