Syllable Count Reading and Ticking Boxes Worksheet
This worksheet asks a first grader to read each word and tick the box for syllables from 1 to 3.
At this age, word reading can turn into sound-it-out guessing, and counting the “beats” of a word is the tricky part. When syllables feel hard, seven-year-olds often get restless and want to move on fast.
Start with one word row. Parent reads the word, claps the syllables, then child reads the same word and claps once more, then child ticks the box that matches the count.
The 1, 2, 3 boxes make answers clear without extra writing, and each word gives short, focused practice with the same skill.
