Where Are the Shapes? Worksheet

The Where Are the Shapes? worksheet is a one-page kindergarten math printable for shape recognition and position language. Children look at the same six-shape board for every prompt and write the shape name that matches clues such as above the triangle, below the square, left of the rectangle, and right of the oval.

At age 5, children are still connecting shape names with visual details, and small direction words can feel slippery. A child may know rectangle and oval during play, then stall when a worksheet asks for left of or below. Short, repeated practice helps children slow down, scan the board, and match the clue to the correct shape.

A parent or teacher can sit beside the child and read one prompt at a time. Ask the child to point first, then say the shape name, then write the answer in the field. For a quick hands-on step, let the child trace the shape in the air before writing hexagon, rectangle, oval, or rectangle in the matching space.

The page stays focused on one clear board instead of changing pictures for every question. That design keeps attention on where the shape is and what the shape is called. The side-by-side layout also makes the task easy to follow during shared, screen-free practice at home or in a small group.
