Where Are the Shapes? Position Worksheet

The Where Are the Shapes? worksheet is a one-page Grade 1 math printable for shape recognition and position language. Children look at the same six-shape board for every question, then write the shape that is left of a rectangle, above a hexagon, right of an oval, or above a circle.

At age six, many children know common shapes in isolation, but shape names can stall when location words enter the task. Practice with left of, right of, and above helps a child slow down, scan the board, and connect geometry words with real placement.

A parent or teacher can sit beside the child and point to the reference shape first, such as the rectangle or hexagon. Ask the child to trace a finger in the named direction, say the found shape aloud, and then write oval or rectangle in the answer field.

The worksheet stays focused because all four questions use one side-by-side shape board instead of a new picture for every prompt. The clear models and writing fields make the page easy to use for quick math practice, a small-group center, or quiet parent-child time at the table.
