Where Are the Shapes? Worksheet

The Where Are the Shapes? worksheet is a one-page first grade math printable for shape recognition and position words. A single six-shape board stays in view while children answer four prompts: which shape is above the circle, left of the hexagon, above the hexagon, and right of the triangle.

At age six, many children can name a circle or triangle, then pause when location words get added. That little stall is normal. The worksheet gives children a small, clear space to connect shape names with above, left of, and right of before geometry directions get busier.

Use the page side by side with your child. Point to the circle first and ask, "What shape is above the circle?" Let your child write oval, then repeat with triangle, rectangle, and hexagon for the other prompts. If handwriting slows the work down, let your child say the answer before writing.

The saved layout keeps the model and writing fields on the same page, so children do not have to hunt through extra pictures. The four questions all use the same board, which makes the practice focused, short, and easy to revisit during a quiet screen-free math moment.
