Cultures and Traditions Worksheet

Kids often understand family habits before they have words for them. This first grade social studies page helps a child work with cultures and traditions in a concrete, print-and-pencil way. Use it as a short shared activity where you read the directions together, pause for talk, and connect the page to familiar customs at home, school, or in the community.

This is a good fit when a child can listen to a short prompt, read or hear simple social studies words, and explain an idea in a sentence or two. If the word “tradition” feels new, start there. Say that a tradition is something people do again and again because it has meaning to them. Then let the worksheet give the practice a clear place to land.

The practice works best when you ask for reasons, not just quick answers. After each response, try a simple follow-up like, “How do you know?” or “Who might do that?” That turns the page into a small conversation about families, groups, celebrations, foods, clothing, stories, or routines without asking your child to speak for every culture. For more practice in the same topic area, you can use this first grade cultures and traditions worksheet to keep the vocabulary fresh in another format.

Sit nearby and help with reading if needed, but let your child do the thinking. If an answer is unclear, have them point to the clue on the page or say an example from real life. A helpful next step is to compare this page with a second related printable, such as another cultures and traditions activity for first grade, so your child can revisit the same idea without repeating the exact same task.
