Kilogram Comparison Worksheet

Six-year-olds can read a number and still wonder what it means when a unit sits beside it. This page gives them four short kilogram comparison problems with illustrated scales, rulers, or measuring containers that match the shown quantities. The pictures are models, not life-size measuring tools, so the main job is to read the number and kg, then compare the amounts.

This is a good fit when a child can recognize numerals and is ready to think about which amount is more, less, or the same. If kilograms feel new, say “kilogram” out loud and point to the kg label after each number. That small pause helps the unit feel like part of the measurement, not extra clutter on the page.

Sit nearby and take one problem at a time. Ask, “Which amount is larger?” or “How do you know?” before they mark or write the answer. If guessing starts, read both quantities aloud, point to each number, and have them compare the numbers first. The goal is steady practice with unit comparison, not speed.

After this page, keep the measurement idea going with a related weight activity like the Pound Subtraction Worksheet, which keeps the focus on weight units while adding take-away thinking. If you want to switch from weight to length, the Feet Measurement Subtraction Worksheet gives another way to read measurement amounts and work with them on paper.
