Kilogram Subtraction Measurement Worksheet

Measurement subtraction can feel like a lot for a kindergartener, especially when the unit is new or the pictures look busy. This page gives a short, focused way to practice kg subtraction with four problems. The illustrated rulers, scales, or measuring containers match the saved quantities, so your child can look at the model while writing each answer.

This is a good fit when a child can count, recognize written numbers in the problems, and understand that subtraction means taking some away. The pictures are models, not life-size measuring tools, so you can say, “Use the picture to think about the amount, not to measure with your hands.” If comparing amounts still feels tricky, try the feet measurement comparison worksheet next because it keeps the focus on noticing which measurement is greater or less.

Work through the first problem together. Read the kg amounts aloud, point to the matching picture, and ask, “What amount are we starting with? What amount is being taken away?” Then let your child subtract and write the answer with the kg unit. This builds practice with reading measurement notation, connecting numbers to picture models, and checking that the answer still names a weight amount.

If your child rushes, cover all but one problem with a sheet of paper and uncover the next one after the answer is written. If they need more weight practice after this page, the pound subtraction measurement worksheet gives a similar subtraction task with another weight unit. That makes a simple next step without changing the whole kind of math problem.
