Maps and Geography Worksheet for First Grade

This printable maps and geography worksheet gives first graders practice with map skills, including reading simple location clues, noticing direction words, and connecting places on a page to real places.

Around age seven, children are ready to move from “over there” to clearer words like north, south, near, far, left, and right. Map work can still feel tricky because a small drawing asks a child to imagine a bigger place, and first graders may rush past tiny details.

Sit beside the worksheet and ask your child to point before writing. Try one clue together, then ask your child to explain the next answer out loud with a full sentence, such as “The park is above the school” or “The river is near the road.”

The page keeps the practice focused and calm, with just enough visual detail for real map thinking without turning the activity into a guessing game. The worksheet works well for a quick homework warm-up, a social studies center, or a parent-child practice session at the kitchen table.
