Word and Picture Matching: Taco

This word and picture matching worksheet connects ten written names with illustrated objects. Read ten labels and draw lines to their matching illustrations across the page. The selection includes taco, red leaves, milk. Name unfamiliar pictures together before asking the child to read or write their labels. The activity uses concrete picture vocabulary; it is not a designated list of high-frequency sight words.

The ten target labels are taco, red leaves, milk, red sweater, koala, elephant, hand mixer, owl, pig, bull. Start with “taco,” read it together, and search all the illustrations for its meaning. The page is arranged in two blocks, and a partner can be in the other block. Point to the word’s circle and the picture’s circle before drawing the connection, then follow the line to check that it reaches the intended picture.

Read a label aloud when the spelling is unfamiliar and connect it with something visible in the picture. Let the child make the choice after receiving that vocabulary support. Keep track of completed pairs so each printed word has one partner. Crossing lines can still be correct; inspect their endpoints instead of judging the neatness of the page. This work combines print with picture meaning. It should not be described as an oral phonemic-awareness exercise.

Explore the Early Words: Reading and Spelling pack for related supported reading formats. Save a suitable next page in the Family Learning Planner. Begin with a few prompts and return to the rest later if needed. After checking an answer, say a short sentence using that picture’s name. Keep the sentence connected to the object so the written label has a clear everyday meaning.
