Pounds Addition Measurement Worksheet

Seven-year-olds often know that pounds measure weight, but the written abbreviation lb can still slow them down. This page gives them four addition problems using pound measurements, with illustrated rulers, scales, or measuring containers shown as friendly models for the saved quantities.

This works well when a child can read simple numbers, write an answer, and combine two amounts with addition. The pictures are there to support the math, not to act as life-size measuring tools, so you can say, “The picture helps us see the amount, and the numbers tell us what to add.”

As they work, children practice reading the unit, keeping the unit with the number, and finding the total in pounds. If they need another page with the same kind of pound addition, the pounds addition measurement worksheet gives more practice with labeled quantities. For a shift into looking at lengths and comparing units, the centimeter measurement comparison worksheet helps them practice a different measurement idea.

Sit nearby for the first problem and ask, “What numbers are we adding, and what unit goes with the answer?” Then let them try the next one with a little space. A good next step is to read each completed equation aloud together, including “pounds,” so the unit stays part of the answer instead of getting dropped.
