This five-letter picture spelling worksheet gives children eight pictures, a writing line for each name, and a small letter grid to search. The target words are stool, peach, acorn, apple, shirt, lemon, sheep, and shark. Name the pictures together before beginning so the spelling task uses a shared word for each illustration. The supplied letters offer support while the child works out the order needed to write that word.
Choose one row, say its target word, and look through the two-row letter grid for the letters needed. Every target has five written letters, although five letters do not necessarily represent five separate sounds. For example, stool is spelled s-t-o-o-l. Help your child compare the written sequence with an adult model when the spelling pattern is unfamiliar.
Record the complete word on its writing line and read it back while pointing to the picture. Check letter order and repeated letters separately, using the grid as a resource rather than guessing from the first letter alone.
