Where Are the Shapes? Shape Location Worksheet

Where Are the Shapes? is a one-page shape location worksheet for first grade. Children use one shared six-shape board to find a triangle, rectangle, square, circle, and hexagon while reading position words such as below, left of, above, and right of.

At age 7, many children can name basic shapes but still stall when shape names and position words appear together. Practice with one board helps a child slow down, scan the choices, and connect math words to a real spot on the page.

Sit beside your child and read one prompt aloud, such as “What shape is below the circle?” Ask your child to point to the circle first, move a finger below the circle, and say the shape name before writing the answer. Use the same finger-tracing routine for left of the circle, above the hexagon, and right of the rectangle.

The worksheet is useful because every question refers to the same six-shape board, so children practice careful looking instead of starting over with new pictures each time. The writing fields also give a small fine-motor task after the search, which turns shape recognition into a simple read, point, say, and write routine.
