Where Are the Shapes Worksheet

The Where Are the Shapes worksheet is a one-page 1st grade math printable for shape recognition and position words. Children look at the same six-shape board, read clues such as left of the rectangle or right of the triangle, and write the matching shape name.

At age 6, many children can spot a circle or triangle by sight, but position words can make the task feel trickier. A child may know the shape and still pause when the question asks for what sits left of or right of another shape.

A parent or teacher can sit beside the child and use the first prompt as a walk-through. Point to the rectangle, ask the child to look to the left, have the child say circle out loud, and then let the child write circle in the answer field before moving to the next clue.

The worksheet keeps every question on the same shared board, so the child practices comparing positions instead of hunting through new pictures each time. Clear models, familiar shapes, and writing fields make the page useful for a short math warm-up, a homework helper, or a calm practice moment at the table.
