Where Are the Shapes? Shape Position Worksheet

Where Are the Shapes? is a one-page kindergarten math worksheet that practices shape recognition and position words at the same time. Children look at one six-shape board, then write the shape that is below the circle, right of the rectangle, right of the hexagon, and above the triangle.

At age 5, children are still learning to slow down and scan a page from left to right, top to bottom, and side to side. Many kids can name a triangle or square alone, but stall when a question asks for the shape above, below, or right of another shape.

Sit beside your child and point to the reference shape named in each question first. Ask, “What shape is below the circle?” or “What shape is above the triangle?” Then let your child say the answer out loud before writing oval, circle, or square in the writing field.

The worksheet uses the same six-shape board for every question, so children practice comparing locations instead of starting over with a new picture each time.
