Where Are the Shapes? Worksheet

The Where Are the Shapes? worksheet is a one-page first grade math printable for shape recognition and position words. Children look at one shared six-shape board, read each clue, and write the missing shape name in the answer field.

At age 6, many children can spot a circle or rectangle in isolation, but kids often stall when shape names are mixed with words like above, below, and left of. The Where Are the Shapes? worksheet gives children practice connecting a familiar shape name to a location on a visual board.

A parent or teacher can sit beside the child and read the first clue aloud: “What shape is below the rectangle?” Ask the child to point to the rectangle first, move a finger below the rectangle, name the circle, and then write “circle” in the field.

The Where Are the Shapes? worksheet is useful because every question refers back to the same six-shape board. The repeated board lowers the guessing rush and helps children compare rectangle, circle, square, and triangle while practicing clear direction words in a calm, screen-free way.
