Feet measurements → Add quantities in feet → Finds each total by combining the two labeled amounts.

Measurement units → Keep the same unit → Writes answers with ft so each sum shows what was measured.

Picture models → Connect numbers to quantities → Uses the illustrated measurement context to read and solve each problem.

Feet Addition Measurement Worksheet

Six-year-olds may understand longer and shorter in real life, then stall when numbers come with a unit. This page keeps the work concrete with four addition problems labeled in ft. The pictures show measuring tools or containers that match the saved quantities, so your child can connect the numbers to a measurement context while adding.

This is a good fit when a child can count on, write simple sums, and recognize that ft means feet. The illustrations are models, not life-size measuring tools, so use them as clues for the quantity shown rather than as rulers to measure with. If the unit feels new, say “feet” each time you read ft aloud, then have your child repeat the full measurement before adding.

The practice is simple and focused. Read the two measurements, add the numbers, and write the total with the same unit. That steady routine helps children notice that measurement addition is still addition, but the answer needs a unit to make sense. For a close next practice page with the same measurement idea, try the feet addition measurement worksheet to give another short round without changing the skill.

Sit nearby for the first problem and ask, “What are we adding, and what unit stays with the answer?” If your child guesses quickly, cover the answer space and have them count on with fingers, tally marks, or a number line on scrap paper. When the page is done, compare one answer with a real object at home by talking about what could be about that many feet long. If subtraction is the next step, the feet subtraction measurement worksheet gives a natural follow-up for taking measurements apart instead of putting them together.
