Learning Outcomes

Kilogram quantities → Add matching measurements → Records totals with the kg unit instead of treating numbers as plain counts.

Picture models → Connect shown quantities to equations → Uses the illustrated measurements as clues while solving each addition problem.

First grade measurement notation → Read and write kg → Keeps the unit label with the numerical answer for each problem.

Kilogram Addition Measurement Worksheet

Kids often understand “add these numbers,” then stall when the answer needs a unit. This page keeps the work small and concrete with four kilogram addition problems. The measurement pictures match the given quantities, so your child can connect each number to a shown amount before writing the total in kg.

This is a good fit when a first grader can count on or use simple addition facts, and is ready to see kilograms written as kg. The rulers, scales, or measuring containers on the page are picture models, not life-size measuring tools, so the goal is reading the saved quantities and adding them, not measuring real objects around the room.

Sit nearby and read the first problem aloud together. Ask, “What unit do we see?” then have your child point to each quantity, add the numbers, and write the answer with kg. If they leave off the unit, gently point back to the problem and say, “The number tells how much, and kg tells what kind of measurement.” That small habit matters in measurement work.

After the page is finished, you can make it hands-on by naming two pretend bag weights, such as 3 kg and 2 kg, and asking for the total. For another measurement page that keeps the same unit while changing the operation, try the kilogram subtraction measurement worksheet. When your child is ready to notice a different unit label, the pound subtraction measurement worksheet gives practice reading lb instead of kg.
