Kilogram Comparison Worksheet

Kids often stall when a number has a unit attached, even when the math looks familiar. This page gives first graders four kg comparison problems with illustrated measurement models. The pictures are there to help them think about the quantities, not to work as life-size measuring tools.

This is a good fit when a child can read or recognize numbers and is starting to connect measurement words with quantity. Sit nearby and have them read each kilogram amount out loud, point to the matching model, and decide which amount is greater, less, or equal. Keep the pace easy. Four problems is enough for a focused little practice session.

The practice works by keeping the unit the same, kg, so attention stays on comparing the numbers. Ask simple prompts like, “Which amount is heavier?” or “How do you know?” If they rush, cover the second amount for a moment, read the first one together, then uncover and compare.

For a next step, you can move from comparing to combining measurements. The feet addition measurement worksheet gives practice adding lengths, while the milliliters addition measurement worksheet lets them work with liquid volume. Both keep measurement units visible, which helps the unit language stay part of the math conversation.
