Little Math Stories is a grade 1 math worksheet that practices addition and subtraction word problems with three simple scenes. Children read about 4 rabbits with 9 more hopping in, 10 frogs with 3 jumping away, and 7 apples with 8 more added, then write the answer for each story.
At age 7, many children are ready to move past isolated facts, but story problems can slow children down fast. A child may know 4 plus 9 or 10 minus 3, then stall when the same math is tucked inside words like more, away, left, and now.
Use the worksheet as a short side-by-side activity. Read each story aloud, ask your child to circle the starting number and the change number, then have your child say whether the story is adding or taking away before writing 13, 7, or 15.
