Pound Subtraction Measurement Worksheet

Six-year-olds can stall when a math problem adds a measurement label, even if the subtraction facts look familiar. This page keeps the work focused: four subtraction problems in lb, with illustrated rulers, scales, or measuring containers that match the quantities shown on the page.

Use it when a first grader can read simple subtraction problems and is starting to notice units. The pictures are models, not life-size tools, so the goal is to read the printed amounts, subtract, and write an answer that still carries the pound label.

Sit nearby for the first problem and ask, “What amount are we taking away?” Then have them point to the numbers before writing. If the lb label is new, keep the focus on pounds as a unit of weight. For another weight-focused page, try kilogram comparison practice, which keeps attention on comparing measured amounts.

After the four problems are complete, read each answer together and check that the unit label stayed with the number. If subtraction with units is going well, milliliter subtraction practice changes the unit while keeping the same idea of taking away measured amounts.
