Tens and Ones Build Worksheet

The Tens and Ones Build Worksheet is a one-page math printable for 1st grade place value practice. The worksheet focuses on tens and ones by asking children to build and record the numbers 12, 16, and 18 using one ten and the correct number of ones.

Place value matters at age six because children are moving from counting single objects to understanding how two-digit numbers work. Many first graders can say “sixteen” quickly, but still need time to see that 16 means 1 ten and 6 ones.

A parent or teacher can sit beside the child and read each number on the page, then ask the child to point to the ten and count the ones. After the child builds the number with counters, base-ten blocks, or quick drawings, the child can fill in the writing fields for tens and ones.

The worksheet is useful because the practice stays focused on three numbers: 12, 16, and 18. The clear learning models and writing spaces keep the page calm, so the child can connect the spoken number, the built model, and the written tens-and-ones parts without a busy page getting in the way.
