Tens and Ones Build Worksheet

The Tens and Ones Build Worksheet is a one-page math printable for 1st grade place value practice. Children build the teen numbers 15, 13, and 14 by matching each value to one ten and the correct number of ones, then use the writing fields to record the tens and ones.

At age 7, many children can count forward but still stall when a teen number has to be broken apart. Place value work helps a child see that 15 is more than a counting word, because 15 is 1 ten and 5 ones.

Sit beside your child and take one row at a time. For each number, ask your child to name the value, point to the ten, count the ones, and write the tens and ones in the fields before moving to 13 or 14.

The page stays focused on only three numbers, so practice feels short and doable. The build layout keeps models and writing fields together, which makes the connection between the picture, the number, and the written place value easier to see than on a busy generic page.
