Tens and Ones Number Cards Worksheet

Teen numbers can trip kids up because the digits do two jobs at once. On this one-page math printable, first graders work with number cards for 18, 19, 11, and 13, using the writing fields to connect each number with 1 ten and the matching ones.

This page is a good fit when a child can count objects to 20 and is ready to talk about numbers as groups instead of single counts only. If the teen numbers still feel mixed up, warm up first with number cards to twenty so the numerals are familiar before adding tens and ones language.

The practice is simple and concrete. Read a card together, say the number out loud, then ask, “How many tens? How many ones?” For 18, that means writing 1 ten and 8 ones. For 11, it means noticing that the ones digit is 1, even though the number is spoken as “eleven.”

Sit beside your child and keep the pace light. If a mistake shows up, point back to the digits and say, “The first digit tells the ten, and the second digit tells the ones.” For a next step, try the tens and ones build worksheet, which gives more practice building the same place-value idea in a hands-on way.
