Tens and Ones Number Cards Worksheet

Kids often count teen numbers correctly out loud, then stall when they have to explain what the digits mean. This one-page kindergarten math printable keeps the task clear. Each number card shows a teen number, 13, 14, 19, or 15, with a model for tens and ones and writing fields for recording the parts.

This is a good fit when a child can count past 10 and is starting to notice that teen numbers are made from one ten and some extra ones. Sit together and read each card aloud first. Then ask, “How many tens?” and “How many ones?” before the writing starts. That short talk helps the written answer connect to the number, instead of feeling like a guessing game.

The practice is simple and concrete. For 13, the child sees that 13 is 1 ten and 3 ones. For 14, 19, and 15, the same pattern repeats with a different number of ones. Repeating the structure helps a five-year-old compare the teen numbers and notice what stays the same, one ten, and what changes, the ones digit.

If single-digit numerals still need a quick warm-up, try the number cards for 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 10 first so the child can practice reading smaller numbers. For a next step, use the circle counting and drawing worksheet to bring counting back to objects they can count and draw. Keeping the practice short, spoken, and pencil-ready makes it easier to finish without turning it into a long lesson.
