Tens and Ones Worksheet for Kindergarten

Five-year-olds can count out loud and still get stuck when teen numbers show up on paper. This printable keeps the focus small: 17, 19, and 16. Each problem shows a clear model and gives writing fields so you can talk through one ten and the extra ones together.

It is a good fit when a kindergartner can count objects to at least 19 and is starting to notice that teen numbers are made from a ten plus more ones. If counting still feels shaky, warm up with the Count and Draw Circles Worksheet, because drawing a counted set makes each number feel more concrete before moving into place value.

As you work, point to the model for 17 and say that it has one ten and seven ones. Then let the child write the tens and ones. Repeat the same pattern for 19 and 16. The steady build layout helps kids compare what stays the same, one ten, and what changes, the number of ones.

Keep it short and hands-on. If a number gets mixed up, cover the writing field and count the model again before trying the digits. For a next step, use the Find the Missing Numbers Worksheet to practice where these teen numbers sit in the counting order.
